Newcastle United want to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United before the end of day after a deal for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike reportedly collapsed.
A report earlier today said that the Magpies were ‘closing in on’ a deal for Ekitike with the Daily Telegraph‘s Luke Edwards confident a transfer would be completed.
The £25m-rated striker has also been linked with a move to Newcastle’s Premier League rivals West Ham.

Romano adds that ‘Newcastle are pushing on Jesse Lingard for final hours of’ deadline day but that fellow Premier League side West Ham are ‘still interested’.
He also continues by saying that ‘it’s up to Manchester United to decide – the player wants to leave right now.’

A report this morning insisted that Lingard will ‘make a final push’ to leave Man Utd before the end of the window with the Geordies being the most likely option.
There was understood to be a huge stumbling block in any potential deal last week as the Red Devils asked for £12m if Newcastle were to avoid relegation.
And former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood hopes Lingard has asked to move to Newcastle on loan after Man Utd “mismanaged” his situation at Old Trafford.
“I think it’s Man Utd saying ‘we’ve mismanaged it’. Let’s get to a situation now where (we can) scramble as much money as we possibly can for a really good asset,” Sherwood told Sky Sports.
“They don’t want to use him. That’s quite clear. When he went to West Ham was a brilliant signing, it was fantastic for him.
“If I’m Jesse Lingard, or if I’m his representative, I’m telling him to sit where he is. I think Jesse should say ‘yes, okay, I’ll go to Newcastle.’ I would say to Man Utd I want to leave the club.”
