Newcastle United urged to move for ‘misled’ Man Utd star

Newcastle United have been urged by Tony Cascarino to sign Man Utd star Jesse Lingard, who has also been linked with West Ham United.

After falling down the pecking order at Man Utd, Lingard joined West Ham on loan last season.

The Englishman had a fantastic spell with the Hammers as he was involved in 13 goals from his 16 Premier League games.

Lingard returned to Man Utd during the summer but he has barely featured for them this term. He is yet to start a game in the Premier League in 2021/22.

The 28-year-old is out of contract next year and it has been reported that United want a transfer fee for him in January.

Cascarino believes Lingard would be a good signing for Newcastle United:

“It looks like he was misled. They didn’t have the greatest start to the season where you can go ‘well, you can’t get into the team’. There have been some down times at Man United and he deserved an opportunity,” Cascarino told talkSPORT (as cited by HITC).

“Jesse needs to play football. He is 28-years-old. He has had a decent career, but not quite got over the line at United. Go out on loan again if he has to and prove what his worth is because they might want to do a permanent.

“It’s a good signing for Newcastle, I believe, and for him – I think Newcastle need more goals from other areas and Jesse could provide that and he can provide assists because they can’t keep relying on Calum Wilson.

“If West Ham come in for him: Then he has a choice. But don’t make it on money. Whatever move he takes, he will get well paid. Whether it’s West Ham or Newcastle. Make the career. The advantage West Ham have is that he knows the manager.”

Elsewhere, Joe Cole has suggested that Lingard would be a “great signing for someone”:

“Jesse Lingard, I think, would be a great signing for someone,” Cole said.

“I’m sure he’s come across Newcastle’s radar. They’ll have the financial power to go and buy him.

“Kieran Tierney as well, is another who is out of the team at Arsenal, I think would be fantastic.

“I think he’s ideal for Newcastle, fits right in and he needs a new challenge. I don’t know why he’s not playing regularly at Arsenal recently.

“Aaron Ramsey over at Juventus, he looks like he wants a move. These are players for Newcastle who would tick a box.

“Who can get them over the line in January who will take them up to the next level next year?

“You want someone with Premier League experience. The bright thing for Newcastle to do in January is to buy players ready-made for the Premier League, who know the league.

“They can’t afford to sign anybody who needs time to settle in.”
