Salah continued his superb start to the season as he equalised for the Reds in Italy before Divock Origi scored the winner on Tuesday.
The goal was Salah’s seventh in the six Champions League games and took his season tally to 20.
Ferdinand lauded Salah for his “joke” start to the season, comparing his rise to the top of the game with “immediate superstars” like Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
He told BT Sport: “He obviously went to Chelsea and didn’t really set the world alight and that’s why he had to go on to find a new pathway to find the level he’s at now.
“You look at the Messi’s and the [Cristiano] Ronaldo’s, you look at the [Erling] Haalands’s the Mbappe’s, they’re guys you immediately go they’re superstars, they’re going to be superstars.
“With him it wasn’t really that from the beginning but the way he’s grown and developed into this player who’s deciding games at will. 20 goals before December is an absolute joke, it’s out of order.”
Despite Owen echoing Ferdinand’s thoughts on the brilliance of Salah, the former Liverpool striker claimed there is room for improvement when it comes to his “instinct” in front of goal.
“We’ve seen him almost learning on the job,” said the former England striker. “He was a poor finisher, an average finisher, early in his career at Chelsea and he’s just got better and better and better.
“That for me is repetition. Still has the instinct side, which I think he could get better on actually.
“I don’t think he’s got great movement in terms of nicking across a defender at the near post and things like that. But, his hardcore finishing has just improved and that is down to repetition in my eyes.”
