Porto demand £50.2m for star as Spurs have £37.6m bid rejected

Spurs have had their opening bid for Porto winger Luis Diaz rejected by the Portuguese outfit, according to reports.

Tottenham are among a host of top European clubs chasing the 25-year-old, who has 14 goals and four assists for Porto this season in all competitions.

Liverpool got a closer look at the Colombian during this season’s Champions League group stage, where Diaz had three shots and three key passes in the two Porto defeats.

And there had been reports that the Merseysiders could be ready to make an offer for the winger but it seems unlikely Jurgen Klopp’s side will do any business in January.

The strongest interest in now coming from fellow Premier League side Tottenham with a report yesterday insisting that Spurs had ‘enquired’ about Diaz.

It was claimed that sporting director Fabio Paratici ‘has made enquiries with Porto and the player’s representatives about the possibility of bringing him to north London this month’.

And now The Guardian say that Tottenham ‘have had a €45m (£37.6m) offer for Luis Diaz rejected by Porto’ as they expect a busy week of comings and goings.

Diaz ‘has a £66m release clause and Spurs have been told their opening bid for the 25-year-old is not enough’ as Tottenham look to add some creativity in forward areas.

Sky Sports don’t report that a bid has been rejected but they do claim that Spurs are prepared to pay ‘£37.6m up front for Luis Diaz, with an additional £8.4m in performance-related add-ons’.

However, sources in Portugal have told them that ‘Porto are holding out for a fee of €60m (£50.2m) for the 25-year-old’.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol said:  “Spurs are in talks to sign Luis Diaz from Porto. Portuguese sources have told us that Spurs are willing to pay €45m for him, plus €10m in add-ons. Porto I think want about €60m, so the two clubs are not that far apart.

“Diaz is a Colombian winger. He’s got two-and-a-half years left on his contract. Liverpool were interested in signing him. Lots of clubs have been watching him.

“At Porto’s game this weekend, there were scouts from Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.”
