PSG ‘open Zidane talks’ in huge boost to Man Utd Poch hopes

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly opened talks over replacing Mauricio Pochettino with Zinedine Zidane at the Parc des Princes in a huge boost for Manchester United.

Pochettino is currently in charge of the French giants but is thought to be United’s preferred candidate to become their permanent manager to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was dismissed at the weekend.

United are said to have made a formal approach for Pochettino, but it was rebuffed by PSG, who weren’t willing to lose their manager mid-season.

But they now appear to have changed their stance.

Le Parisien claim PSG have opened talks over replacing Pochettino with Zidane, which would pave the way for Pochettino to join United.

It was initially thought that PSG planned to pursue Zidane with a view to appointing him in the summer, but United’s interest in Pochettino, and the compensation they would receive from the Premier League club, is thought to have played a role in persuading them to change tack.

Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher says he would “be gone tomorrow” if he had the chance to leave the French giants for United, with PSG’s star-studded front three the key reason.

“Pochettino has to get out of the club. If he has the chance to go to Manchester United. I would be gone tomorrow and it’s because of those three stars,” said Carragher on CBS.

The former Liverpool defender claimed the reluctance of Mesi, Neymar and Mbappe to track back played a huge part in City’s win at the Etihad.

The thought was echoed by fellow pundit Thierry Henry, who claimed Pochettino is unable to put his imprint on the team due to the talented trio.

“If you want to win the Champions League, you cannot defend with seven players,” said Henry.

“It is impossible, I don’t care who you are. The full backs are exposed, so it’s virtually a three vs one, three vs two on the pitch.

“Team that win titles – and the Champions League even more so – have their front-three facing the ball.

“That way the full backs will feel more comfortable with what’s going on behind them.

“But right now they’re too exposed. Teams in France cannot expose them, but Man City can.

“Pochettino is not allowed to be Pochettino at times with that team.

“How do you take (Messi, Mbappe or Neymar) off? So he put Angel Di Maria in midfield – but he was exposed and not helping.”
