Pundit claims Kane and Santo clash on how Spurs should play

Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has suggested that Harry Kane “wants to play” a different way to Nuno Espirito Santo.

Kane was keen to leave Spurs during the summer. He made it clear that the reason for this was because he wanted to win team trophies before he retired.

Man City attempted to sign him but they could not agree a deal with Tottenham before the summer deadline.

Spurs still stumped but Leicester solved the Kane conundrum

The Englishman has not been his usual self so far this term. He has only scored once from his eight outings for Tottenham in the Premier League.

Spurs host Manchester United on Saturdayevening at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Speaking on the Kelly and Wright Show, Bent said it looks like Kane and Santo disagree on how the Londoners should play:

“I think there is a structure but I think, unfortunately with the players that he’s [Nuno Espirito Santo] got, I’m not quite sure it suits them.

“Harry Kane, he’s one of the best out there. But I think the way Nuno wants to play, doesn’t suit the way Harry Kane wants to play.

“You look at the way they played against Manchester City first game of the season. That has been their best performance. That was without Harry Kane when they had Lucas Moura. They had Bergwijn, they had Son, three guys that they could sit in there. They could be defensively solid and then on their counter attack just go.

“I think when you’ve got Harry Kane…you can’t play that way because he doesn’t want to play that way. Kane doesn’t want to stand up there and hit teams on the counter attack. He wants to get involved, he wants to drop deep, assist Son, assist Lucas Moura.”

He added: “I think there is an identity on how he [Espirito Santo] wants to play but I think the way the Spurs players are at the minute, they don’t want to and the Spurs supporters don’t want to see that.

“Under Jose [Mourinho] he tried it, they didn’t want to watch it. They were moaning every single week and now that he’s [Espirito Santo] gone there, which is the same type of football, they kind of feel like it’s grinding the gears a little bit.”
