Rangnick ‘clause’ could see him take permanent Man Utd job

Imminent new Man Utd interim boss Ralf Rangnick could yet become the club’s permanent manager in the summer, according to reports.

It was claimed yesterday that the Red Devils had struck an agreement with Lokomotiv Moscow to allow the former RB Leipzig manager to leave for Old Trafford.

It’s understood that Man Utd are waiting for his work permit to be accepted before officially announcing Rangnick as their new interim boss.

Man Utd are mirroring history, Rangnick to drop Ronaldo and…

Michael Carrick got off to the perfect start as caretaker manager on Tuesday night as United beat Villarreal 2-0 to secure their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Rangnick is expected to take over from Carrick imminently before the club appoint another manager as a long-term successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – who oversaw five losses in his last seven Premier League matches in charge –  in the summer.

But The Sun claims that Rangnick ‘could be permanent’ Man Utd boss ‘as club chiefs consider contract clause allowing him to continue next term’.

The report claims Rangnick ‘has not ruled out’ becoming the permanent boss despite the expectation that he will move into a consultancy role at the conclusion of the campaign.

It is understood, though, that ‘Rangnick’s side are still negotiating the final details of his contract, with a possible clause allowing him to continue as boss if he wants to.’

Rangnick ‘does not want his move to United just to be seen as a six-month interim term before being moved upstairs, but a serious longer-term project.’

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expects Man Utd to be “organised” under Rangnick and has told the Red Devils supporters that they have a “good coach”.

“Unfortunately a good coach is coming to England, that’s how it is, to Manchester United,” Klopp said at a press conference on Friday.

“Ralf is obviously a really experienced manager. He built most famously two clubs from nowhere to proper threats and forces in Germany with Hoffenheim and Leipzig.

“United will be organised on the pitch, we should realise that – that’s obviously not good news for other teams.”

And Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was also full of praise for Rangnick, he said: “He helped me a lot because he was my coach and then one of the main figures to convince me to try coaching.

“He was a huge influence on all of us at this time because he showed us it’s not important to follow people to the toilet in games, people felt defenders followed the strikers in games.

“Before I get carried away and talk too much, he isn’t appointed yet. So let’s respect everybody.”
