Rangnick left frustrated by ‘similar’ Man Utd problems in Saints draw

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick was left feeling frustrated as his side dropped points in familiar fashion against Southampton.

United took an early lead when Jadon Sancho slotted home his first Premier League goal at Old Trafford.

Man Utd moaners can’t have it both ways. Shut up or f**k off

However, Southampton grew into the game and got their reward shortly after half-time when Che Adams calmly finished past David de Gea.

The result is the second time this week that United have taken a first-half lead only to blow it in the second-half, having done so against Burnley on Tuesday.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game: “Unfortunately it was very similar to the last couple of games. A very good first half, very good first half hour. We did all the things we intended to do with the counter attacks ands the deep runs. We created, scored a great goal.

“Then we stopped doing that; at the end of the first half we didn’t do those things anymore and then in the second we lost a bit of shape.

“In the first 20 minutes we were struggling to defend, that happened in transition when they scored their goal. In the last 20 minutes, we had big chances to score again, expected goals was in our favour but we didn’t get the result.

“We told the players they needed to be aggressive [at half time] but in the end it is different to perform like that on the pitch.”

Defender Raphael Varane added: “We are disappointed about the result, it is not enough for us. We have to keep pushing. In last three or four games we have played much better but the result is not enough for us. We have to fight and be focused on the next game.

“It is the second time the beginning of second half has not been good enough and we concede a goal. We had good opportunities in the first half.

“We never give up and we have to fight until the end.”
