Redknapp calls for Chelsea, Man Utd linked Rice to stay at West Ham

Harry Redknapp believes Declan Rice is “in a great place” at West Ham and he has called for him to snub the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.

Rice has been one of the Premier League’s standout players over the past couple of seasons.

The midfielder also shone at this year’s European Championships as England reached the final of the tournament.

Rice has been linked with a move to several of West Ham’s league rivals in recent months.

The 22-year-old is said to be valued at around £100m by the Hammers. A move to Chelsea has been mentioned frequently as he used to play for them before he joined West Ham in 2014.

Despite these links, Redknapp believes Rice would be better off staying where he is:

“He’s very much a massive part of the team at West Ham,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.

“It’s a great club to be at and unless he’s going to go Man City, maybe Man United or whatever.

“He’s been at Chelsea as a kid so I think that’d be difficult one for them, to spend the money having given him away when he was young.

“So I think he’s in a great place at West Ham. I’d like to see him stay there long term.

“He’s in the England team so it’s not holding him back at all and West Ham look like a team who are on the up.

“They could be challenging for trophies in the next year so hopefully, for West Ham’s sake, he stays another few years there.”

Earlier this month, David Moyes suggested that Rice is “as good as” any midfielder in England:

“I think I’ve said a couple of times that I do believe he is [the best in the country].

“He is young and improving and has been captain while Mark Noble isn’t starting.

“He is learning and getting better. I genuinely think he is as good as any midfield player in the country at this time.

“With him being young I can only see him continuing to improve. Declan is a great boy to work with, really committed. He is part of the different mentality we have around West Ham, we are determined to challenge the teams and be committed against them.

“He is playing really well for England too.”
