Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim is in the running to become the permanent Man Utd manager, according to reports.
The 36-year-old played 14 times for Portugal during a nine-year spell as a Benfica midfielder before moving on to coaching after retiring four years ago.
Successful short spells at Casa Pia and Braga saw Sporting Lisbon take a chance on the young manager last year with his side currently sitting second in the Primeira Liga, level on points with Porto.

His side are yet to lose a game in the Portuguese top division this season and now reports claim that Man Utd could be interested in making him their new permanent boss.
Michael Carrick had been in caretaker charge for the last two matches against Villarreal and Chelsea – after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked just over a week ago – but the Red Devils announced today that Ralf Rangnick will be interim boss until the end of the season.
The Sun now claim that Amorim – who led Sporting to their first league title in 19 years last season – is the fifth name that Man Utd will consider when they look to appoint a permanent manager in the summer.
It is understood that ‘Mauricio Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers and Erik Ten Hag remain the leading candidates’ while Rangnick could also have a ‘chance’ of becoming their long-term appointment.
But The Sun explains that it Anorim could be an expensive addition:
‘Sporting forked out £8.4million compensation to fellow Portuguese club Braga to poach Amorim last year.
‘He signed a new deal in March that increased his release clause from £16.8m to an astonishing £25.2m.
‘Amorim would represent an expensive gamble for United in the current market but he is on the radar for the future — if another of his admirers do not snap him up first.’
Meanwhile, on becoming the new interim manager, former RB Leipzig manager Rangnick said: “The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience.
“All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team.
“Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s longer-term goals on a consultancy basis.”
