Man Utd striker Anthony Martial is ‘not innocent’ despite Ralf Rangnick claiming the recent issue between the pair has been resolved, according to reports.
The France international has made it clear that he wants to leave the club this winter despite reportedly rejecting offers to join Premier League sides Tottenham and Newcastle.
Rangnick claimed that Martial turned down the chance to be part of his squad for the Premier League match against Aston Villa at the weekend.

Speaking after the game, Rangnick said: “Yes, he [Martial] didn’t want to be in the squad.
“He would have been in the squad normally but he didn’t want to and that’s the reason why he was not travelling with us yesterday.”
The former Monaco striker came out on Instagram to deny those suggestions, he said: “I will never refuse to play a match for Man United.
“I’ve been here for seven years and I never disrespected and I never will disrespect the club and the fans.”
But yesterday Man Utd boss Rangnick insisted that the “matter is now resolved” after he sat down with Martial on Sunday.
“I’ve been here for six weeks. All the things that need to be said, I said after the press conference.
“I had a conversation with him on Sunday, a personal conversation about what happened and how I saw the whole situation. The matter is now resolved.
“He didn’t train yesterday and before yesterday, he will probably train today and after training I will then take the decision if he is nominated or not.”
And now The Athletic ‘shed some light on the situation’ by claiming that there ‘has been a breakdown in communication, but Martial is described as “not innocent”.’
The Athletic explain:
‘In the past, Martial has taken longer than expected to return to fitness and appraised his condition differently to staff. The current conflict stems from Martial’s wish to leave United this month and the doubt that creates over his selection. Martial cited a knee injury when Rangnick took charge and since that point, eight games later, he is yet to be named in a match-day squad.
‘In that context, after Martial trained fully on Thursday, Rangnick asked a colleague on Friday to get confirmation whether the France international could play against Aston Villa. Martial is said to have taken the question as an invitation and responded that he felt unable. The message came back to Rangnick that Martial was ruling himself out.
‘Each party can hold firm on their version. Martial did not “refuse” to play but nor did he answer Rangnick’s call affirmatively.’
