Romano reveals Everton closing in on Digne replacement

Everton are closing in on Dynamo Kiev left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko in a deal which could lead to the departure of Lucas Digne from Goodison Park.

Digne was dropped by Rafa Benitez last month and despite his manager saying he was back available for Thursday night’s trip to Chelsea, the defender revealed he was unavailable due to illness.

Will McKenna’s Manchester United to Ipswich gamble pay off?

The Frenchman has been linked with a move away from Everton and the signing of Mykolenko looks like the Toffees are preparing for life without Digne.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed on Friday morning that the defender was undergoing a medical with Everton, offering up his famous ‘here we go’ phrase, signalling that the deal was close.

Romano tweeted: “Ukraine left back Vitaliy Mykolenko is currently undergoing his medical as new Everton player, here we go!

“He’s set to join Everton from Dynamo Kiev on a permanent move, final price around €21/23m. Personal terms agreed.”

The Italian then followed up by adding: “Vitaliy Mykolenko will complete his medical as new Everton player today – and then he’ll sign his contract in order to announce the deal as soon as possible.

Mykolenko has spent his entire career with Dynamo Kiev and has already accumulated 132 senior appearances at the age of 22. The left-back also has 21 caps for the Ukraine national team.

Elsewhere, former Arsenal man Emmanuel Frimpong has urged Arteta to consider selling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after his latest disciplinary breach.

“I feel like in any profession there must be a professional attitude. And we all know Aubameyang has had one or two problems with coming late so I feel it was the right call.

“He’s the captain and there has to be an example so the younger players in the squad can follow.”

Frimpong added: “I think it would be good for Arsenal to cash in. Look at his age, he’s getting older, and we need a new striker that we can have for the next five years.

“He’s a great player but this is the best time to cash in. It will be difficult though, as he’s on very good wages. It’s not going to be easy to get him out.”
