Salah flirts with Barcelona as he tells Liverpool to ‘solve this issue’

Mo Salah claims that it makes him “happy” to hear Barcelona’s interest in signing him but wants Liverpool to hurry up renew his contract.

The Egyptian has 18 months left on his contract at Anfield with the Reds and Salah keen to tie him down to a new long-term contract.

Salah has been in brilliant form again for Liverpool this season, contributing 19 goals and nine assists in 20 matches in all competitions.

He is arguably the best player in the world on current form but luckily for Liverpool he has reiterated his desire to commit to the club.

Salah insists there is “no problem” from his point of view but he has urged the Reds to make him an acceptable proposal.

The Egyptian said: “The decision is in the hands of the management and they have to solve this issue. There is no problem but we have to reach an agreement for the contract. It’s up to them.

“Your financial value shows how much the club appreciates you and that they are ready to do anything for you to stay, but the decision itself is not based on those financial matters only.”

It is understood that new Barcelona boss Xavi wants the Catalan giants to push the boat out and sign Salah and the 29-year-old was “happy” to hear of their interest.

Salah added: “I read what was said about Xavi’s interest to sign me.

“This is something that makes me happy that a team like Barcelona is interested in me, but I’m happy in Liverpool and we will see what happens in the future.

“At the moment, I prefer to stay in the Premier League as it’s the strongest league in the world.”

Meanwhile, Salah only managed six assists in the whole of the last campaign and Jurgen Klopp said on Friday that the striker has “developed technically” since then.

The Liverpool boss said: “Salah was never criticised for being too selfish by us.

“What helps a lot is experience so you know what to do in situations and areas of the pitch. What helps is Mo has the experience, not lost the greed to score but developed technically. He sees others in better areas.”
