Souness believes Arsenal are ‘not good enough’ in one area

Graeme Souness believes Arsenal are currently the “best of the rest” but he has picked out the one area where they are “not good enough”.

The Gunners started the 2021/22 season poorly as they lost their first three league games.

They were able to recover but their unbeaten run came to an end on 20 November as Liverpool hammered them 4-0.

Arsenal then beat Newcastle, but after that, they suffered back to back defeats against Man Utd and Everton.

They have bounced back again this week as they have won three games on the bounce.

Mikel Arteta’s side smashed four past Leeds on Saturday after they beat Southampton and West Ham.

Arsenal are now fourth in the Premier League, but Man Utd and Tottenham Hotspur can overtake them if they make the most of their games in hand.

The Gunners have been let down by their away form this season. Five of their six defeats in the league have come on the road.

As quoted by the Metro, Souness has called for Arsenal to “improve” their away results:

“Right now they’re [Arsenal] the best of the rest. The front three for me are considerably better than any of the other teams,” Souness said.

“But I’m sat between Man Utd, Arsenal, Spurs, maybe West Ham will think they’d be in that argument as well.

“Fourth is within their reach [for Arsenal] but we’re only halfway through the season. They have to improve on their away form, that’s not good enough.

“We’ve seen when they went to Liverpool a couple of weeks ago that the level that Liverpool play at and where [Arsenal] are right now is considerably different.

“Yeah they have a chance of being fourth but Spurs will be in that argument, Man U will be in that argument, and West Ham I think can cause problems to anyone they play.”

Elsewhere, Martin Keown has praised Martin Odegaard as the midfielder has proved him wrong:

“I will say that when he first came to the club, I was not his biggest fan, but I have to change that opinion now because he really is developing,” Keown said.

“You see that clever movement that he has to receive the ball, he was first-class in that Arsenal midfield.

“He’s growing in stature. His confidence is really high, the manager has backed him. For me he’s just getting better and better.”
