Spurs set to gazump Arsenal with bid for £32m Juve star

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly working on a deal to land Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus.

That’s according to The Athletic, who claim the deal would be a loan with an option or obligation to buy.

Kulusevski has made 20 Serie A appearances this term but has started just five games, notching one goal and three assists.

Signed from Atalanta in January 2020 for £32million, Kulusevski spent the second half of that season on loan at Parma, winning the Serie A Young Player of the Year having played a huge hand in keeping them in the division.

He became a member of the Juventus squad at the start of the 2020-21 campaign and started over half of the league games in his debut season for the Old Lady, but has struggled to make his mark under Max Allegri.

Arsenal have also been credited with interest in the Sweden international, with a report from Sport Mediaset (via Sport Witness) on Friday claiming that ‘the Arsenal track seems the most likely one’.

But Spurs boss Antonio Conte has made clear the need for signings in January if his side are to continue to fight for the top four in the Premier League, with a forward to ease the burden on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min thought to be a priority.

Other targets Adama Traore and Luis Diaz look set to join Barcelona and Liverpool respectively, leaving Spurs scrambling ahead of the deadline.

After defeat to Chelsea, Conte admitted there was an “important gap” between Spurs and the top teams in the Premier League.

“I don’t like to lose and a defeat is always difficult for me. But I think to have nine games in a row without defeat was important,” Conte said.

“At this moment, the gap with other teams like Chelsea is really an important gap and the team and the squad, the game was… I am proud of the effort. We tried to do everything but sometimes it is not enough, especially against a team like this.

“Now there is a big difference between us and the top teams.”
