‘Upset’ Man Utd star ‘asks to leave’ over Ronaldo’s influence

Mason Greenwood is unhappy at the influence Cristiano Ronaldo has gained in the Man Utd dressing room, according to reports.

The England international was a regular under previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but has only started one of Ralf Rangnick’s three matches in charge at Old Trafford.

Greenwood has five goals and two assists from 16 matches in all competitions this campaign and will be hoping to show the German what he can do.

His playing time has been reduced slightly by the arrival of Ronaldo, who returned to Man Utd in the summer transfer window from Juventus.

Catalan publication Nacional claims that Greenwood is ‘upset’ at his lack of playing time with the Red Devils and that Ronaldo is always the first name of the teamsheet.

The report adds that Ronaldo has ‘unleashed a storm’ with Greenwood ‘asking to go’ and join Xavi’s revolution at Barcelona.

Greenwood and others are ‘not satisfied’ that Ronaldo plays every game even if he performs badly with Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes among his ‘big detractors’.

The trio and Greenwood are understood to be uncomfortable with how quickly Ronaldo has become the leader of the dressing room.

Ronaldo recently suggested that Man Utd needed to see more from some of the young and talented players within the ranks at Old Trafford.

The Portugal international told DAZN: “I don’t mean only in football, this new generation since probably 1995 they are thinking different.

“The life, the football, the struggles, this has to come from inside of you. You have to accept some times that you don’t agree with.”

Meanwhile, Cavani has spoken about his gratitude towards the Man Utd supporters for their kind words as he recovers from an injury.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to have had a season here already,” Cavani told the club’s official website. “But without the fans in the ground. So I was unable to enjoy that experience along with them.

“But I’ve got huge recognition for just how great and kind they’ve been with me, and I’m grateful, and always will be, for the songs they’ve made up for me. Because I think that, a lot of the time, things happen for a reason.

“I’m sure that, sometimes, certain stuff happens for a purpose, and I’m grateful, grateful for all the affection that the supporters and fans of this club show me. So, yes, we’ll see what happens. Let’s hope that it’s a really positive month for us all and then we can see what happens further on down the line.”
