West Ham join Serie A duo in race for wantaway PSG defender

West Ham have joined the race alongside Napoli and Lazio to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Layvin Kurzawa, according to reports.

Kurzawa has fallen out of favour under PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino, having not made a single Ligue 1 appearance this season.

The 29-year-old has been in the matchday squad for one league clash as well as three Champions League matches. His only minutes in 2021/22 so far came in the French Super Cup, when he came off the bench in the 81st minute.

West Ham could make a move for the Frenchman, who is keen for regular game time, according to Foot Mercato (via HITC).

The French outlet’s report adds that Kurzawa is being ‘pushed towards the exit’ as he is ‘not part of the Parisian plans’.

The Hammers face competition from Serie A duo Lazio and Napoli.

Should the left-back move to the Premier League outfit, he will compete with Aaron Cresswell – who is currently out injured – for a starting berth.

Arthur Masuaku has featured in the 32-year-old’s absence, but Cresswell is David Moyes’ undisputed first-choice left-back.

Meanwhile, Harry Redknapp believes Declan Rice is “a massive part” of the West Ham team and has called for the midfielder to snub the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.

Rice has been linked with a move to several of West Ham’s league rivals in recent months.

The 22-year-old is said to be valued at around £100m by the Hammers. A move to Chelsea has been mentioned frequently as he used to play for them before he joined West Ham in 2014.

Despite these links, Redknapp believes Rice would be better off staying where he is.

“He’s very much a massive part of the team at West Ham,” Redknapp told talkSPORT.

“He’s in the England team so it’s not holding him back at all and West Ham look like a team who are on the up.

“They could be challenging for trophies in the next year so hopefully, for West Ham’s sake, he stays another few years there.”
