West Ham-linked defender ‘tired of speaking’ about future

Duje Caleta-Car says he is “tired” of answering questions about his future, with West Ham reportedly interested in signing the Marseille defender.

The 25-year-old joined Marseille for around £17m in 2018 and has made over 100 appearances for the French giants.

He has been in and out of Jorge Sampaoli’s starting XI this season, featuring 18 times in all competitions so far.

Caleta-Car was heavily linked with a move away from Marseille in the January transfer window, but a transfer failed to materialise.

Wolves were rumoured to be interested in the Croatian last summer, with a report in September claiming that he “refused” to leave the Ligue 1 club amid the Molineux club’s interest.

Last month, West Ham – who were interested in signing a new central defender – were heavily linked with the player.

And Caleta-Car was asked about his Marseille future during a pre-match press conference this week.

“Every transfer window, I’m involved,” he said (quotes via Sport Witness). “They take about me in the press, they say I’m going to leave, but I’m still here. There can be offers, but the three parties need to be in agreement.

“Each transfer window, I’m talked about. Honestly, I’m tired of talking about it.

“I’ve been here for four years, I’m happy to be here. Yes, I’ve had interesting opportunities that didn’t go through, so when the moment comes, we’ll see, but I’m not thinking about it.”

Meanwhile, Kurt Zouma remains available for selection for West Ham’s Premier League trip to Leicester on Sunday, manager David Moyes has confirmed.

There have been calls for Moyes to drop the French defender over the video which emerged of him kicking and slapping his cat.

Moyes caused more controversy by picking Zouma to face Watford on Tuesday, barely 24 hours after the footage was released and amid a huge public outcry.

The West Ham boss said: “Yes he’s available to play against Leicester. There are different views and opinions on should he be available. We as a club took that decision and I stand by that.”

Zouma has been fined the maximum two weeks’ wages, which will go to animal welfare groups.
