Wilshere: Chelsea starlet will be ‘buzzing’ if Lampard arrives at Norwich

Jack Wilshere predicts Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour will be “buzzing” if Frank Lampard becomes the new Norwich City manager.

The Canaries brought Gilmour in on loan from the west Londoners in the summer but he only made four Premier League appearances under Daniel Farke.

Norwich sacked the German on the weekend before the international break despite the Canaries picking up their first win of the season at Brentford.

Chelsea are champions of autumn again but winter is coming…

Lampard is now the favourite to take over with reports yesterday indicating he has had an interview with the Norwich board and is set to be offered the job.

And former Arsenal midfielder Wilshere thinks Gilmour will be excited by the news of Lampard’s imminent arrival after enjoying a number of games under him at Chelsea.

“I’ll tell you one person who will be buzzing if [Lampard] goes Norwich – Billy Gilmour,” Wilshere told talkSPORT.

“He played him at Chelsea, he loves him. He’s going to help him develop as a player. I don’t know why [he’s been left out]. I think he’s unreal for his age.

“He played in the Euros, he played for a big club like Chelsea in big games, and he can’t get in the Norwich team.”

On Lampard potentially joining the Canaries, Wilshere added: “Norwich is a good club. OK, they might be going down, but he’s obviously prepared to try and build something there.

“He won’t be going into that job thinking, “We’ll be in the Championship next year”. He’s not that type of character. He’s a good manager as well. Look what he did at Derby.”

When asked if Lampard can keep Norwich up, Wilshere replied: “I think he can.”

Meanwhile, Harry Redknapp recently echoed Wilshere’s thoughts on Gilmour following his role at Chelsea under Lampard.

“One boy who will be very, very happy will be Billy Gilmour,” Redknapp told talkSPORT. “How he’s not playing there…

“I saw the kid play when he first got in the Chelsea team, I saw him play in the Euros against England, you’d think if you take him at Norwich you’d have half built your team around him.

“That’s what Frank will do if he goes there, I’m sure. I’m sure Billy Gilmour will be a massive part of his team. It looks like they’ve got some good kids there at Norwich, and he’d give them a chance.”
