Wilshere makes Arsenal Champions League claim amid Man Utd ‘pressure’

Jack Wilshere has claimed that Arsenal could earn a place in the Champions League this term “because of” Manchester United’s struggles.

Arsenal have recovered in recent weeks after they lost their first three Premier League games of the 2021/22 season.

Mikel Arteta’s side have not lost in the league since as they have picked up four wins and two draws. This improved form as seen them rise up to tenth in the table.

The Gunners are now level on points with Leicester City, and they face Brendan Rodgers’ side on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Man Utd have really struggled of late. They are winless in four games in the league.

Last time out, they were hammered 5-0 by Liverpool. This form has seen them drop down to seventh in the Premier League.

As reported by the Express, Wilshere has claimed that Arsenal could claim a spot in the Champions League as a result of United’s problems.

“I think their target has to be getting back into Europe,” Wilshere said.

“Obviously the Champions League they’d want. I think any form of Europe would be an improvement.

“I can [see them getting top four] because of United.

“I don’t think United are bad but with all the pressure on them and the stuff surrounding Ole, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens with the manager.

“But it is going to be close because West Ham are there, Leicester are there.”

Elsewhere, Gary Neville has suggested that Emile Smith Rowe is more “clinical” than Cristiano Ronaldo was at the same age:

“Cristiano was the first person I ever heard to say he undoubtedly wanted to be the best player in the world,” Neville said.

“It’s quite unusual to hear a player [say that] because everybody talks about the team and the collective. To hear Mo Salah say it is refreshing.

“I think you can say these things when you are delivering, and these two have delivered now consistently.

“Ronaldo now for 10, 15 years and Mo Salah for five, six years, and beyond. They are absolutely deadly. They are ruthless and clinical.

“Everything that Smith Rowe [wants to be], he’s a beautiful footballer Smith Rowe, and he’s got a long way to go in his career. Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t as clinical and ruthless at that age.

“But that’s where he has got to get to. To the point where by every single game, they want to be the best. They want to score the winner. They believe they are going to score the winner. Confidence is unbelievable.”
